SEVIRA hydrological, hydrochemical and hydrobiological monitoring on Vyborg Bay took place at the end of August 2019. On Russian side the monitoring cruise was organized and arranged by the Northwest Administration for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (NorthWest AHEM). At the finnish side the monitoring cruise was carried out by the Southeast Finland ELY-center. All together there were 14 sampling stations, six in Finland and eight in Russia.

A number of hydrological indicators were determined: water temperature (different depths), waves, transparency and color of water. Water samples for hydrochemical analyses were taken at all sites from two horizons - 1 m from the surface and atthe bottom. Directly on board were made the following analyses and observations: water temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, color and oxygen content. Samples for measuring salinity, total phosphorus, phosphates (on phosphorus), total nitrogen, nitrite and nitrate nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen and silicic acid were delivered to laboratory.

As for result conformability between the laboratories and practices on both sides of the project area, there was also organized an intercalibration practice on two water quality parameters (chlorophyll-a and total nutrients). Russian samples were sent to laboratory in St Petersburg and Finnish samples to laboratory in Lahti.

To gain enhanced view over the coastal area there will be a combined use of satellite data and water quality monitoring measures. Satellite dataare currently analyzed and will be reported in near future.

Next SEVIRA joint coastal monitoring sampling cruises on the Vyborg Bay and Finnish coastal area are scheduled to take place on May and August 2020.
