In the new SEVIRA-blog Maria Kämäri and Petri Ekholm write how SEVIRA-project has implemented extensive river water quality monitoring in three rivers discharging into the eastern Gulf of Finland. About 300 river water samples have been collected and analysed in Finnish and Russian laboratories. The data indicates spatial and temporal differences in water quality of the rivers. A cost-effective monitoring program for riverine nutrient load estimation will be proposed based on combined analysis of water samples and river discharge data.
Maria Kämäri and Petri Ekholm work in the Finnish Environment Institute and are responsible for recommending an optimal water sampling program for rivers in the SEVIRA-project.
