Flow through measurement system

Flow through measurement system

Field measurement platform provides cost efficiently high temporal and spatial climate gas and water quality (flow through), microplastic and hydrological data of our waters’ from ponds to costal areas.

Transferable platform provides flexibility to research wide areas also without boat. Flow through measurement system is customised for the Tieto 1 research boat.

  • Research: gas modelling, impact analysis and monitoring, microplastic studies, model input data, vegetation mapping
  • Main parts: Boat Alucat W8 catamaran (5m x 2.3, C-class) with a trailer 1300 kg, data collection systems (2 ldata loggers), options (plastic, current)
  • Features: line measurements ( ~25 km/h) and profiling (~20 m depth), 2-6 people, ~13 l/h (25 km/h speed), max. speed recommended 35 km/h.

  • Environment condition: C-class inshore boat < 2 m (Hs), typical -5 to 40 C (max. -40 to 60 C)
  • Sensors: flow through system (CO2, 2xCH4, water quality EXO), weather system + net radiation, PAR, CO2/air, high precision IMU/GNSS system, profiling (include also PAR system, depth, temperature), pollutant tracing (rhodamine)
  • Additional instruments: currents* (ADCP), micro plastic & optional (plankton and water quality imaging)
  • Accessories: Rugged PC, Portable Power station, dry suits, Lowrance HDS12-Live

  • Data: Cloud service in real time possible, data loggers in CSV and JSON formats (Python coded).
  • Data analysis too: Python codes (calibration, outliers, hydraulic delay, true wind calculations), in logger also possible
  • Material: Training material, system description & wirings, user manuals and guide, data analysis tool guide.

  • Location: Vantaa
  • User requirements: car (4WD recommended), driving license ABE, boat skills, introduction to system, water samples as needed
